Job Description
A Hospital Pharmacist is a healthcare professional responsible for dispensing medications to patients, ensuring their safety, efficacy, and proper usage. They also manage pharmacy-related services, provide drug information, and work closely with the medical team to optimize patient care in a hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities:
• Dispense prescribed medications and ensure their accuracy, appropriateness, and proper dosages.
• Provide medication counseling to patients, explaining proper use, potential side effects, and interactions.
• Monitor and manage the inventory of medications and other pharmaceutical supplies, ensuring timely stock replenishment.
• Collaborate with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to discuss patient treatments, including the effectiveness and potential risks of prescribed drugs.
• Advise on drug interactions, side effects, dosages, and alternatives for patients with special health conditions or concerns.
• Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements regarding pharmaceutical practices.
• Maintain and update patient medication records, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and legal standards.
• Participate in the preparation and compounding of medications as required.
• Assist in the development of hospital formulary policies and procedures.
• Educate hospital staff and patients on proper medication use and safety practices.
• Stay updated on the latest pharmaceutical developments and best practices.
Skills & Qualifications:
• A degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm or M.Pharm) from a recognized institution.
• Registered as a pharmacist with the local pharmaceutical board.
• Strong knowledge of pharmacology, drug safety, and therapeutic principles.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals.
• Excellent communication skills for patient education and team discussions.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Knowledge of healthcare regulations and compliance.
• Prior hospital pharmacy experience is preferred but not mandatory.
