MRF, or Madras Rubber Factory, is India's largest tyre manufacturer, headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Established in 1946 by K. M. Mammen Mappillai, MRF began as a toy balloon manufacturer and later expanded into tread rubber and tyre production. Over the decades, the company has diversified its product range to include tyres for passenger cars, two-wheelers, trucks, buses, and off-the-road vehicles. Additionally, MRF produces conveyor belts, paints, and sports equipment. The company operates multiple manufacturing facilities across India, including plants in Kottayam, Puducherry, Goa, and Perambalur. MRF has also ventured into the toy industry through its subsidiary, Funskool India, established in 1987 in collaboration with Hasbro. The company has been recognized for its brand strength, ranking as the world's second-strongest tyre brand with a AAA− brand grade. MRF is also active in sports, notably sponsoring motorsports events and the MRF Pace Foundation, which trains fast bowlers in cricket. In April 2022, the Competition Commission of India raided MRF's headquarters along with other tyre companies over allegations of cartelization in tyre pricing.
